Robert Lewandowski will target Liverpool weakness and score at least once - Rio Ferdinand
ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI will be disappointed if he does not score at least one goal against Liverpool on Tuesday.
Liverpool: Pundits discuss van Dijk's Champions League absence
That is the opinion of BT Sport pundit and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.
Lewandowski was unsurprisingly named in the Bayern Munich starting XI for the Champions League last-16 first leg match at Anfield.
The Poland superstar was up against a weakened Liverpool defence.
Virgil van Dijk was missing through suspension while Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez were absent due to a hamstring injury and broken leg respectively.
He’ll be looking at this game thinking ‘if I don’t come out of this game with at least one goal’, he’d be disappointed I’m sure
Fabinho moved from midfield to partner Joel Matip at the back, which Ferdinand says will be Liverpool’s weakness.
And he reckons Bayern Munich will be trying to get Lewandowski in the game as much as possible.
“I think these two centre-backs, Matip especially needs to play with a dominant figure alongside him,” Ferdinand said.
“That’s why he’s worked well with Van Dijk in the past.
“Fabinho is not a centre-half naturally so he would want someone dominant alongside him, Matip isn’t that.
“So that is going to be their weakness.
“The biggest thing from the Bayern team that they’ll be saying in that changing room is ‘get the ball into our danger man, Lewandowski’.
“He’s a top, top class striker, get the ball into him, make these players defend.
“Make them be on the back foot and defend against a world class, genuine world class player.
“He’ll be looking at this game thinking ‘if I don’t come out of this game with at least one goal’, he’d be disappointed I’m sure.”
