Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed for PERMANENT Man Utd role: 'He's done frighteningly well'
MANCHESTER UNITED could not have appointed a better manager than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to Lee Sharpe.
The Norwegian was appointed caretaker boss back in December and has since won 10 of his 11 games in charge.
That run includes big wins against Tottenham and Arsenal, both away from home.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest test, however, comes against PSG in the Champions League tonight where United will be looking to put one foot into the quarter finals.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the United job as well, but Solskjaer’s success so far, may land him the job permanently.
And former Red Devils man Sharpe, believes that there’s no-one better equipped to take his former club forward, than Solskjaer.
“Ole has done frighteningly well,” he told talkSPORT.
“They were talking about bigger names and more experienced coaches, but I don’t think anybody could have come in and done any better.
“He’s been absolutely phenomenal. He’s done exactly what was needed. The club needed a breath of fresh air.
“They needed someone to give the players a big cuddle, tell them they are good players, make them happy and make them play with a smile on their faces and that’s exactly what he has done.”
Solskjaer has also revived the form of United’s attacking players such as Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.
The two of them have 14 Premier League goals between them since December.
And Sharpe believes that’s all down to Solskjaer, who wasn’t a bad striker himself.
“The forward players at the club are immensely talented and if you give them a bit of a free rein and a bit of organisation they’ll score goals and win you games,” he added.
“With the way he’s started, it would be very difficult not to give it to him. I don’t see anybody else you could bring in.
“He knows the club inside out. Somebody else would have to be given time to settle in and understand the club and get their message across to the players – but he’s already done that.
“I don’t think you could pick anybody better for the job.”
