Man Utd news: Solskjaer and former club chief enjoy lunch after deadline day deals
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has been spotted out for lunch with former Manchester United chief executive David Gill after a productive transfer deadline day.
Man United: Martial meets with Solskjaer for contract signing
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and David Gill were snapped enjoying a relaxed lunch after Manchester United conducted their transfer deadline day business early.
The Red Devils manager was seen with the former chief executive outside Cibo Restaurant in Hale Village on Thursday afternoon.
The pair were in a good mood and were spotted shaking hands before going their separate ways, with United having already sewn up three deals.
Anthony Martial put pen to paper on a new five-year contract this morning, with the Frenchman posing alongside Solskjaer for promotional photos at Carrington.
Meanwhile, United waved goodbye to Marouane Fellaini with the Belgian jetting out to China ahead of a move to Shandong Luneng Taishan.
Matty Willock has also departed on loan to Crawley Town until the end of the season, with United not expected to bring in any new faces before the 11pm deadline.
With all his business done, Solskjaer looked more than happy to spend a leisurely afternoon reminiscing with Gill.
The 61-year-old arrived at Old Trafford as finance director in 1997 before being promoted to deputy chief executive in 2000.
Gill then took an even more influential role in recruiting new players as chief executive before stepping down in 2013, with Ed Woodward now in charge of signing transfer targets.
The former United chief is still involved with the club as a non-executive director and was seen arriving at Carrington in December, the day after Jose Mourinho was sacked.
Solskjaer will have been delighted to tie Martial down on a new deal, with the 23-year-old set to stay at the club until 2024 with an option of a further year.
Martial had been close to leaving Old Trafford after a tough time under Mourinho, but is considered a key part of the Red Devils’ long-term plans.
