Suarez takes the No 22 shirt which was previously worn by three French players.
First Gael Clichy sported the number before he made his controversial switch to Manchester City.
Francis Coquelin then took the jersey in the 2012/13 season.
After his loan move to Freiburg, he was stripped of the number and when he returned he was presented with the No 34.
In his absence, striker Yaya Sanogo was given the shirt.
He has since joined Toulouse on a permanent deal, paving the way for Suarez to take the number.
And there will be optimism that the midfielder can make a bigger impact in north London than all of the previous owners.
Suarez has already had a taste of English football having graduated via Man City's academy.
During his time in England, he had been keeping his eye on Arsenal.
“One thing no one knows about me is that when I was little and I used to watch the Premier League on the TV, Arsenal were a team that really inspired me,” he told Arsenal's website.
“I used to watch Bergkamp and Henry - they’re both legends of the club and hopefully we can follow in their footsteps.”
