Man United: Mourinho has been ‘let down’ by players says pundit
Manchester United legend Carrick joined Mourinho’s coaching team back in the summer after 12 years of strutting his stuff at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils hero appeared close to his manager at first with the two often seen conversing on the touchline, working out ways to get past their opponents.
Jose Mourinho lost his job at Manchester United in December, however, after falling out with many people at the club.
His feud with Paul Pogba was high-profile and led to a split within the dressing room.
By the end, though, Mourinho reportedly only had the backing of two of his signings - Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.
The 55-year-old cut an increasingly frustrated and subdued figure by the end of his time at the club.
And the Daily Mail say Carrick, alongside coach Kieran McKenna, felt marginalised.
For many United fans, that will come as no surprise.
When results are bad, Mourinho can sometimes go into his shell. It was the same at Chelsea in 2015 and Real Madrid two years before that.

Carrick and McKenna were supposedly excluded from briefings Mourinho had with his coaches before the sack.
Yet the Daily Mail say Carrick and McKenna both feel happier now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in charge.
Solskjaer has enjoyed a stunning start to life at United, winning his first six games across all competitions.
The 45-year-old’s impact has been so big there are even players championing for him to get the job full-time.
Meanwhile, Pogba has claimed United have rediscovered their identity under Solskjaer.
