Celtic transfer news: Brendan Rodgers identifies TWO signings during recruitment meeting
BRENDAN RODGERS has selected two transfer targets that he wants this January to bolster his ranks.
Celtic FC: Vakoun Issouf Bayo is a ‘good signing’ says Rodgers
The Celtic boss has already been busy this month following the additions of Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo.
But it doesn’t look like Rodgers is done there and there could well be more additions to follow at Celtic Park.
The club are level on points with Rangers at the SPFL summit and have a game in hand over their title rivals.
Rodgers is conscious though of their Old Firm rivals, particularly given the strong statement they have made in the market theirselves this month.
Steven Gerrard has welcomed the additions of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, who will both add valuable experience to his ranks.
According to Sky Sport’s Jim White, Rodgers has identified two further targets to complete his transfer business.
“My understanding is there’s a recruitment meeting today to discuss two signings Brendan Rodgers would like to make,” he said on talkSPORT.
“One is the Olympiakos full-back Omar Elabdellaoui. He plays international football for Norway.
“Also on the agenda is James McCarthy, a possible loan target from Everton.
“We’ll see how those develop.”
Elabdellaoui was a product of Manchester City's youth academy and has also spent time on loan with Hull City.
James McCarthy has recently made his return from a broken leg.
Celtic have also been linked with a move for Yaya Toure.
The former Man City midfielder was released by Olympiacos and is looking for a new club.
Celtic: Transfer window is 'most important in history' says fan
And during an appearance on Sky Sports Monday Night Football he was asked whether he'd like to play for Celtic.
“Maybe,” he said.
“Let me speak with Kolo and I'll speak with Brendan Rodgers and maybe we will see.
“Maybe I could end up in England or in Scotland. I want to end up playing at the highest level.”
We may see some of Rodgers' new signings this Saturday when Celtic host Airdrieonians in the Scottish Cup 4th Round.
