Man Utd news: Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was LAST on my list to manage United - Dwight Yorke
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER’s appointment as Manchester United caretaker manager has stunned his old Red Devils team-mate Dwight Yorke.
Solskjaer is currently in temporary charge of United following the club’s decision to relieve Jose Mourinho of his duties as manager.
The Norwegian will lead his old side until the end of the season, when the United board hope to have installed a permanent manager by.
The Red Devils have looked like a completely different team under Solskjaer’s stewardship, winning four games on the spin and scoring a plethora of goals.
Yorke has been impressed by what he’s seen of his old team-mate’s time at the Old Trafford helm but is surprised to see him in the dugout.
“If you had asked me to look around that dressing room and pick out someone who would one day manage Manchester United, Ole would have been last on my list. He was so quiet,” Yorke told The Sun.
“I thought the job he had with the youth and reserve players at United was him - nice guy, bringing along the next generation.
“But what he has done is amazing, you cannot fault it.
“I knew this team was not 19 points worse than Manchester City as they were last season, or that much worse than Liverpool. No chance, not with the quality there is in this squad.”

Should United continue their renaissance under Solskjaer, Yorke - who often kept the 45-year-old out of the starting XI during their playing days - believes he should be contention to succeed Mourinho on a permanent basis.
“Manchester United is a very special club, the biggest in the world.
"You cannot just forget and discard what made it that way - and Ole is getting us back there,” Yorke said.
“He has given the club that connection again, a connection that should never be lost.
“I look at how they play now and it reminds me of how we played. The players are enjoying it all again.
“If Ole keeps on going like this and maybe wins a trophy he should get the job, why not?”
United return to action on Sunday when they take of title-chasing Tottenham at Wembley.
The Red Devils go into the match in sixth place in the league and trail fourth-placed Chelsea by six points.
