Chelsea transfer news: Blues consider surprise Jamie Vardy swoop to solve striker problem
CHELSEA are considering a shock move for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy this month.
The Blues are looking to bolster their attack with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud struggling at Stamford Bridge.
And Express Sport understand Maurizio Sarri is keen on Leicester hitman Vardy.
The Foxes star has netted seven times in the Premier League this season and would add a different dimension to Chelsea’s attack.
Sarri has resorted to playing Eden Hazard as his main striker in recent matches because of the poor form of Morata and Giroud.
Vardy is one of a number of options Chelsea chiefs are looking at.
Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, Bournemouth ace Callum Wilson and on-loan AC Milan hitman Gonzalo Higuain are all being eyed.
And it isn’t just strikers who are wanted by Chelsea.
Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella and Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Paredes are midfield targets for the Blues.
Callum Hudson-Odoi should remain at Chelsea insists Sarri
Chelsea are willing to let Morata leave Stamford Bridge this month if they can secure a replacement.
La Liga side Sevilla want to take the Spaniard on loan for the rest of the season.
On a deal manager Pablo Machin said: “A problem? Not at all. Having Morata would be a bloody blessing for me.
“Many teams want him because he’s worth it. The aim of the club is clear: we want to bring the best in.
“If due to finances it can’t go ahead, nobody can feel frustrated.
“If we can’t, we will lower the bar a bit.”
Chelsea return to action on Saturday when they take on Newcastle in the Premier League (5.30pm).
The Blues currently sit fourth in the table, three points clear of Arsenal.
