Chelsea transfer news: Gonzalo Higuain update as Maurizio Sarri eyes £50m Callum Wilson
CHELSEA boss Maurizio Sarri is open to paying £50m for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson if he cannot secure Gonzalo Higuain’s services, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea have an 'interest' in Callum Wilson reveals Zola
Chelsea remain desperate for a striker, and have been linked with both players in the past month.
Higuain was close to joining the Blues last summer, but ultimately went to AC Milan on loan from Juventus.
Wilson has been in impressive form this season for the Cherries, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in the Premier League.
But Sky in Italy are reporting that Chelsea’s chief-executive Marina Granovskaia is reluctant to slash out on Higuain as she’s unconvinced he’ll solve Chelsea’s scoring problems.
That stance could mean Chelsea turn to Bournemouth hotshot Wilson, with Sarri willing to hand over £50m to snare the hitman.
In the mean-time, Milan sporting director Leonardo has told Higuain to take responsibility and to get on with his job at his current club.
"A goal can change things, but if he is to continue here, he needs to take on responsibility,” Leonardo said.
"He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work."
"There's no point following rumours and gossip.
"He is here right now. Seeing as he is here, he needs to get down and actually do something for this team."
Former Napoli boss Sarri has also spoken about Higuain in recent weeks, but in a more positive way.
“I like him very much, he is a wonderful player and man,’ Sarri said when asked about the rumours surrounding Higuain,” he said.
“But I don’t want to talk about him. I have two and a half strikers at the moment, Higuain plays for Milan.”
Bournemouth’s Wilson was confirmed to be an interest of Chelsea last year when assistant manager Gianfranco Zola spoke about him in a news conference.
But since then, Sarri’s remained coy on the situation.
“I don’t know about Wilson,” he said. “Eddie [Howe] is a friend and I want to see him happy.”
