MANCHESTER UNITED will not sign either Kalidou Koulibaly or Douglas Costa in the January transfer window.

That is the view of Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.

Napoli centre-back Koulibaly is much sought after across Europe and United are in the market for central defenders.
However, Nicol does not think a transfer budget of £50million will be enough to get the Senegal international.
Manchester United are talking about maybe spending £50m. That would get the right boot of this guy
“I don’t think there is any possibility of this happening in the next window at all,” Nicol said.
“Manchester United are talking about maybe spending £50m.
“That would get the right boot of this guy.
“So, it’s not going to happen. That is absolutely a miss.”
Sacked United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly learned of the club's plans to sign Juventus winger Costa hours before he was relieved of his duties.
But Nicol does not think the 28-year-old Brazilian is the type of player they need.
“I’m not so sure about this,” Nicol continued.
“I think Man United right now need proven, world-class ability.
“Douglas Costa possibly has world-class ability. He just doesn’t show it consistently.
“And I don’t think United need another guy they can’t rely on.
“[Anthony] Martial, as good as he is, is in and out.
“So I don’t think this is going to happen at all. I don’t see it, it’s a miss.”
