Man Utd news: How much Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will cost REVEALED
MANCHESTER UNITED have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.
Mourinho was given his marching orders by the club on Tuesday morning following his now former side’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Red Devils chiefs moved quickly to replace the Portuguese, installing Solskjaer as his successor earlier today.
United acquired their former striker services from Norwegian side Molde, where he’s managed for the last three years.
Solskjaer penned a new three-year deal with Molde earlier this month which allowed him to leave the club for United, so long as the Premier League side gave them a compensation package.
And Express Sport understands that package came in the former of a £1.8million payment.
Should the 45-year-old impress the Old Trafford hierarchy and they want to retain his services on a permanent basis, they’ll have to fork out an extra £8million.
Solskjaer takes over a United side currently toiling in sixth place in the league and who trail table-toppers Liverpool by a whopping 19 points.
The Norwegian is well aware of the huge task which awaits him but is looking forward to it nonetheless.

He said: “Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the staff and everyone at the club.”
Former United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen is a fan of the appointment of Solskjaer, saying: "It would be a good choice in terms of the fact that they want to bring back some of the spirit that was at United in the time of Sir Alex Ferguson, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a big part of that.
"In that respect, I can understand they were looking for a candidate who can live up to those expectations.
"If they do decide for Ole and Ole decides to accept then again it is a big ask for everybody.
“But I think in the short term it would be a good choice to make."
Solskjaer will begin his reign as United boss on Saturday afternoon when his new side travels to south Wales to take on relegation-threatened Cardiff City.
