Man Utd news: Zinedine Zidane makes decision on job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointment
MANCHESTER UNITED have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager - but Zinedine Zidane will reportedly not be the Norwegian’s successor.
Man Utd: Zidane talks have 'already happened' says pundit
Manchester United have been linked with both Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino in the wake of their decision to sack Jose Mourinho on Monday.
For now, however, the job belongs to club legend Solskjaer, whose appointment was confirmed today.
A statement published on Manchester United’s official website said: “Manchester United announced today that former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the 2018/19 season.
“Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007.
“In 2008 he became the club’s reserve-team manager, before taking the managerial role at FC Molde in Norway.
“Solskjaer will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager.
“He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.”
And Bleacher Report say Zidane is NOT interested in taking over at the end of the season.
It is said he does not want to damage his CV in a country he has never worked in.
Zidane, they claim, could normally have been tempted.
But he feels now is the wrong time with United such a shambles both on and off the pitch.
In October, Zidane’s agent ruled out a move to United.
Man Utd: Five managers who could replace Jose Mourinho
Mauricio Pochettino - Tottenham.
Zinedine Zidane - Out of work since leaving Real Madrid.
Antonio Conte - Out of work since being sacked by Chelsea.
Leonardo Jardim - Out of work since leaving Monaco earlier this season.
Ryan Giggs - Wales.
“Manchester United? I don’t think he’ll go to England to train. It’s less his style,” Alain Migliaccio said.
“I discussed it with him, it does not really attract him.
“He has chosen to have a year out, he will not dive in again before that is over.”
Solskjaer, meanwhile, will oversee United’s Premier League clash with Cardiff on Sunday (4.30pm).
