Mauricio Pochettino would leave Tottenham for Man Utd on ONE condition - Jamie Redknapp
MAURICIO POCHETTINO would accept a job offer from Manchester United if Tottenham will not match his ambition, claims former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
Man United: Pochettino 'ticks all the boxes' says Jamie Redknapp
Pochettino has been linked with the Manchester United job since Jose Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday morning.
The Argentine has impressed many during his tenure at Tottenham and has also reportedly been a target of Real Madrid.
Pochettino confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that he is fully committed to Spurs.
“It’s not my business what happened today and only I want to send my best wishes to Jose,” he said.
If he feels that they haven’t got the ambition that he has, then maybe he might look at it as a once in a lifetime opportunity
“There are a lot of rumours about my position as manager at Tottenham. I cannot answer this type of question.
“The business you know very well, a lot of rumours happen. I’m so focused in trying to deliver my best in this football club.”
With Tottenham set to enter their new stadium next year, Redknapp can understand why Mauricio Pochettino may want to stay in his current role.
But he claims United is a once in a lifetime job and if Spurs do not back him in the transfer market, he would jump at the chance of going to Old Trafford.
Tottenham facing battle to keep Pochettino warns Gray
“The one I think the Man United fans would really like would be Pochettino,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“But whether you could get that one across the line I don’t know.
“He left Southampton to go to a bigger club and he’s very ambitious.
“People might say he’s not won anything but he would tick every box.
“He’s very good at bringing on young players, he’s organised, he plays an expansive type of football that fans want to see.
“But he’s at a club that is just about to move into a new stadium, massive fanbase, great fans, they seem to adore him.
“The only thing at Tottenham that might be the point that he wants to go is have the owners got the ambition that he has?
“I know they’ve got a great stadium but they didn’t buy and players in the summer. Do they really want to push on?
“And if he feels that they haven’t got the ambition that he has, then maybe he might look at it as a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“There’s only a couple of jobs [like that].”
Former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to take the job on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.
