Chelsea news: Eden Hazard sends message to Maurizio Sarri over position
CHELSEA star Eden Hazard has opened up on playing as the main striker in the victory over Manchester City on Saturday.
Maurizio Sarri: Eden Hazard is a 'good option' at centre forward
The Blues left Olivier Giroud on the bench with Alvaro Morata failing to make the squad.
And that meant Hazard played in the ‘false nine’ position for Maurizio Sarri.
The Belgian impressed throughout as Chelsea beat the champions at Stamford Bridge.
And Hazard insists he was happy to play as the furthest man forward against City in the Premier League.
I like it, because I played it last year also
“I like it, because I played it last year also, so I know what to do, but the feeling is a bit strange because you don’t touch the ball a lot,” he said.
“You just need to focus on what you need to do and I tried to do my best, we won and that is what is important.”
Hazard was quick to downplay the win against the champions though and is already focusing on the next matches over the busy festive period.
He added: “We just want to win games and now this one has finished, we can enjoy the win, but we need to be focused for the game on Thursday and next week at Brighton.”
Mourinho: I would LOVE Eden Hazard at Manchester United
Sarri has confirmed he will be using Hazard in the same position in future matches.
“He had some problems at the beginning of the match, but I think he played really a very great second half,” he explained.
“Maybe he deserved to score.
“I think it's a very good option. We will play like today in the future for some matches of course.”
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Liverpool.
Up next for the Blues is a Europa League clash with Vidi on Thursday.
After that Sarri’s side take on Brighton on Sunday (1.30pm).
