Arsenal news: Mark Clattenburg highlights major error in Man Utd Premier League draw
ARSENAL were unlucky against Manchester United because Anthony Martial’s goal should have been disallowed, according to former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg.
Arsenal played ‘far better’ than Manchester United says Gray
Arsenal saw themselves twice pegged back by Manchester United on a stunning night of Premier League action at Old Trafford.
The Gunners went ahead through Shkodran Mustafi, before Martial equalised after Ander Herrera had kept Marcos Rojo’s free-kick alive.
Arsenal then regained the lead through a Rojo own-goal, only for Lingard to find the net and propel Manchester United to a crucial point.
Many feel the result was fair but some have taken to social media to suggest that Martial’s goal should have been disallowed.
Replays have shown that Herrera’s head was offside when he raced to the ball and crossed for Martial.
And Clattenburg believes Scott Ledger, the assistant referee for the United match, made a mistake by failing to notice.
“Manchester United’s equaliser should have been disallowed for offside,” Clattenburg told the Daily Mail.
“Ander Herrera’s head was in an offside position when Marcos Rojo struck the free-kick.
“When the shot was saved, Herrera ran on to the loose ball and pulled it back for Anthony Martial to score.
“With the benefit of VAR, this goal would not have stood but it is still disappointing that Scott Ledger, the assistant referee, got it wrong.
“He is one of the best assistants in England but this was a static situation and there were no defenders blocking his view.”
Unai Emery believes Arsenal were unfortunate not to win at Old Trafford.
"I am very proud for our work and how we responded in the 90 minutes,” the Gunners manager said.
“When we are winning it was a good moment but they equalised very quickly then we got up after their two goals.
"In the second half, our players worked to find a way to win.
“I think we were close, more than them, to do the third goal but De Gea saved two or three times with good action."
