Man Utd news: ‘I would be absolutely LIVID with Jose Mourinho if I was Marcus Rashford’
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho expressed his frustration at Marcus Rashford while on the touchline against Young Boys - but Gary Lineker did not approve of what the Portuguese did.
Rashford was given a rare start as the main central striker for Manchester United’s in the Champions League clash.
The England international was a bright spark for the hosts in a goalless first half at Old Trafford.
But he was guilty of missing a clear-cut chance inside the first 10 minutes.
Rashford was fed through on goal but could only lift the ball over the crossbar after beating goalkeeper David von Ballmoos.
Now, I must say as a centre-forward, if I saw my manager react like that I would be absolutely livid
Replays showed Jose Mourinho’s reaction to the incident in his technical area.
The United manager folded his arms, turned to look at his bench and shook his head at the miss.
And at half time, Lineker admits he would have been fuming if he saw his manager react like that to one of his misses.
“This was the reaction of Jose Mourinho,” Lineker said on BT Sport.
“Looking at his bench and then shaking his head.
“Now, I must say as a centre-forward, if I saw my manager react like that I would be absolutely livid.”
United legend Rio Ferdinand was working alongside Lineker as pundit.
And he agreed Mourinho’s reactions did not send the right message to Marcus Rashford.
“That says it all doesn’t it,” Ferdinand replied.
“I think that says it all, exactly what you just said there.
“He’s obviously going to see that after the game and what type of confidence or message does that send to him?
“That’s the problem.”
United went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time winner by Marouane Fellaini.
