Real Madrid news: Solari reveals what he told teenager Vinicius Jr before first goal
REAL MADRID manager Santiago Solari has revealed what he told young sensation Vinicius Jr before he scored the opener in Saturday’s win against Valladolid.
The Brazilian star scored the first of Madrid’s two goals on Saturday, as the Spanish giants look to rescue their season.
Madrid finally snapped a five-match run without a win in the league.
This was Solari’s second match as Madrid boss, having taken over temporarily following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui.
For just the third time this season, Vinicius Jr made a league appearance for the Madrid first team, having spent the majority of the campaign with the Castilla team.
Fans have been desperate for a chance to see the teenager in action, as he scored four goals in five matches for Castilla this year.
Solari admitted that 18-year-old Vinicius Jr is one to be excited about.
However, he was keen to ensure that fans realise he is a member of a big squad and may not play every game.
“It's fantastic that people are excited,” Solari said.
“We can’t fight against what goes on outside.
“Vinicius has his whole career ahead and judgments will be made in time.
“With his virtues and defects, he is one more player in the squad.”
Vinicius Jr came on with 20 minutes to go against Valladolid.
He made a big impression, as he scored the opener, before causing the defence nightmares as Madrid saw the game out.
“I told him to be bold and to take people on, which is what he knows how to do,” Solari explained.
“I also told him to defend, which he needs to be reminded about."
