NEW DEAL: Torres has signalled his intention to stay at Liverpool
He will sign a four-year deal worth about £110,000 a week – a significant pay hike.
Torres had four years to run on his existing deal but was entitled to a wage review this summer under the terms of his £20.2million move from Atletico Madrid two seasons ago.
The contract includes the option of a 12-month extension to 2014.
Striker Torres, 25, has been a revelation at Anfield, notching his 50th goal for Liverpool last week.
His partnership with Steven Gerrard has seen the pair plunder 97 goals in two seasons. Manager Rafa Benitez is determined to push Manchester United even harder for the title next term and believes that, having convinced Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger to agree new contracts verbally, Torres’s commitment is a sign of progress.
“Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game and, at his age, can only get better,” said Benitez.
“Liverpool have made huge progress this season and now we must take the next step.”
