Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri admits TWO Blues stars are surplus to requirements
MAURIZIO SARRI admits Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater are surplus to requirements at Chelsea as neither fits his formation.
Nigerian international Moses was a first-team regular under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte but since the summer arrival of Italian manager Sarri, the wing-back has found himself dumped on the bench.
Drinkwater, meanwhile, is faring even worse.
The £35million ex-Leicester midfi elder’s only action this term was as a substitute in the Community Shield.
And that scenario is unlikely to change as they do not suit the way Sarri likes to set up his team.
The Chelsea manager said: “The situation is that Drinkwater, for me, is suitable for a midfield with two midfielders.
“I told him two months ago what I think.
“Moses is more suitable to play like a wing-back, rather than like a winger or a full-back.”
As for their chances of breaking into the first team, they seem bleak.
Sarri added: “I don’t know. They have to improve but their characteristics are a bit different.”
