Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho is to blame for one star’s poor form, says ex-Red Devil
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho is to blame for the poor form of striker Romelu Lukaku.
That is the verdict of former Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.
Lukaku is currently on a run of eight consecutive games without a goal for United.
The Belgian’s goalscoring record at Old Trafford has rarely been questioned until now since he joined the club from Everton in the summer of 2017.
However, Lukaku’s other qualities as a striker have often been under scrutiny, such as his touch and hold-up play.
While that team continue to play that kind of style, it is going to be very difficult for anyone up there on their own, whether it’s Lukaku or not
He was criticised by pundits after United’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Juventus on Tuesday night.
But Bosnich believes Lukaku is good enough and is just a victim of Jose Mourinho’s style of play at United.
“Yes I think he is good enough, there’s no doubt about that,” Bosnich told talkSPORT.
“We saw that at the World Cup with Belgium, although you have to say he had better players around him.
“But he’s definitely good enough to lead the line, he just needs help.
“Regardless how good a player you are, there does come a time when you come up against top class defenders where you need some help.
“And while that team continue to play that kind of style, it is going to be very difficult for anyone up there on their own, whether it’s Lukaku or not.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho is confident goals will return soon for his powerful striker.
“He is our striker and he a is a good striker we believe in,” Mourinho said of Lukaku.
“Could I play (Marcus) Rashford there? But then I don't have a winger as in this moment we have a difficult situation.
"Romelu is a hard-working guy and a good professional.
“One day the goals will arrive and the confidence will be back."
