Jose Mourinho reveals Man Utd half-time team talk: Reacts to Chelsea crowd
JOSE MOURINHO has described his side’s 2-2 result with Chelsea as a very bad result, before explaining that most teams would have been happy with the point.
Mourinho: I am very disappointed with the result
His Manchester United side were held to a 2-2 draw at Chelsea, having led 2-1 going into stoppage time.
United went 1-0 down to a Antonio Rudiger goal, before a quick fire Anthony Martial double switched the scoreline.
Mourinho looked set to beat his old club until the last few seconds, when Ross Barkley popped up in the penalty area and rifled home an equaliser.
After the match, Mourinho took offence to a member of Chelsea’s staff celebrating in front of him, and the pair engaged in a touchline scuffle, before the Portuguese boss held up three fingers to the home crowd, reminding them of the titles he won at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Mourinho said he was upset with the way the Chelsea fans reacted to him, and revealed why he felt the draw was a bad result.
“I am very happy with my team, my players, my supporters,” he said.
“But very disappointed with the result.
“Normally at Stamford Bridge, the away team gets a point and it is a good result.
“It is really difficult to get points here.
“In this case, it was a very bad result.
“When you are the best team you want to win, you deserve to win.
“So I think it was a bad result.”
Mourinho then explained what he told his side at half-time, as they chased an equaliser.
“I told them that the distance between the first half and the second against Newcastle was a huge distance,” he said.
“(Against Newcastle) we needed to improve dramatically.
“Today to win the game we didn’t need to improve that much.
“We just needed a little bit more in the final third.
“The organisation was good, the tactics to stop Chelsea’s triggers, Hazard Willian Jorghino they played well, we
were in control, it was just to intensify our ambition and quality in the last third.
“We were the best team, I played many matches in this stadium and I think the reaction of the crowd showed they knew they were in trouble.”
The United boss explained what happened at the end of the game in the touchline fracas.
“It was a bad attitude by Maurizio’s assistants, he saw, he told me he would react internally, he came and apologised internally,” he said.
“Yes, I am disappointed (with the Chelsea fans reaction), because I won three titles for them.”
