Liverpool injury news: David Wagner hints Jurgen Klopp is TRICKING Huddersfield over squad
LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp may be playing a game over squad injuries to lure Huddersfield into a false sense of security this weekend.
That is the view of Klopp’s friend and Huddersfield manager David Wagner.
Klopp is expected to be without Mohamed Salah (groin), Virgil van Dijk (rib) and Naby Keita (muscle) for Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield.
Liverpool are hoping to extend their unbeaten run at the start of this Premier League campaign, while Town are yet to claim victory.
But Wagner is wary of the Reds’ injury status ahead of the John Smith’s Stadium showdown.
I know he loves to use some smokescreens
"I know Juergen long enough that I know he loves to use some smokescreens," Wagner said.
"Don't believe everything you read - I expect that most of his players will be on the grass on Saturday."
There are reports Keita could be sidelined for the next two weeks, while Van Dijk was a casualty during the recent international clash between Holland and Germany.
Liverpool have a marathon month ahead until the next international break.
Liverpool travel to Huddersfield on Saturday before a Champions League home tie with Red Star Belgrade.
Klopp’s men then play Cardiff and Arsenal in the league, travel to Belgrade, and they host Fulham before the international break.
As for Huddersfield, they earned a point at Burnley last time out and Wagner is hoping for a turnaround in fortunes soon.
"Now we have a great opportunity, a wonderful game in front of our fans against a very strong side, where we can hopefully perform at the same level (as our last game). That's what we like to do," Wagner added.
"Every performance gives you belief and every win gives you belief - unfortunately we have no wins so far - but we have performed at a good level consistently over the last weeks and in training the guys look very good as well.
"Sometimes football writes some great stories and nobody knows what is going to happen on Saturday."
