John Terry performs BRILLIANT rendition of Stand By Me on A League of Their Own - WATCH
THIS is the moment John Terry performed a brilliant rendition of John Lennon’s Stand By Me on A League of Their Own, which will be broadcast tomorrow night.
A League Of Their Own: John Terry sings ‘Stand By Me’
Terry went viral last year when he sang the 1975 hit song at his Aston Villa initiation.
And the legendary defender was persuaded to do just that again - except this time on a bigger stage.
Grinning from ear to ear, Terry starts a small jig and clicks his fingers as the backing music starts.
The crowd get on their feet and cheer as he hits his first note - before the stage opens up to reveal six backing singers with a difference.
All wearing the full Chelsea kit - Terry donned the strip after the 2012 Champions League final despite not playing - they ease forward led by former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
She joins Terry in singing before the show’s host James Corden, former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp and legendary cricketer Freddie Flintoff all take to the mic.
They are joined by comedians Josh Widdicombe and Romesh Ranganathan.
The full show is set to be shown tomorrow. A League of Their Own is on Sky One and NOW TV on Thursdays at 9pm.
It was thought Terry could be heading for the Aston Villa hot seat with Thierry Henry set to turn his back on the job.
The ex-Chelsea defender, who skippered Villa to the Championship play-off final last season, had been tipped to take the No.2 role alongside Henry.
He was then linked to replacing Steve Bruce himself but that now appears to be off the cards.
Right now, Rui Faria is the new favourite to take over at Aston Villa with Terry set to be his No 2.
Terry is also one of the candidates to succeed Bruce, with Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers and Brentford boss Dean Smith also on Villa’s shortlist.
Faria spent 17 years alongside Jose Mourinho at United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Villa are desperate not to let their hunt for a new boss descend into a long drawn-out farce.
The club have former Liverpool chief executive Christian Purslow leading the operation to replace sacked Steve Bruce as quickly as possible.
Bruce's two-year reign was brought to an end last week as fans grew vocal about the disappointing start to the season.
Villa are 15th but still only four points off the play-off places.
Stand By Me - the lyrics to hit song
This song says, no matter who you are,
No matter where you go in your life
At some point you're going to need
Somebody to stand by you.
Oh yeah! Oh my darlin' stand by me!
No matter who your are, no matter where you go in life
You gon' need somebody, to stand by you.
No matter how much money you got, or the friends you got,
You gon' need somebody, to stand by you
When the night has come, and the way is dark,
And that moon is the only light you see.
No I won't be afraid, no I-I-I won't be afraid
Just as long as the people come and stand by me.
Darlin' darlin' stand by me, ooh stand by me Oh stand
Stand stand by me C'mon stand by me stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Well should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't she'd a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
Oh darling, darling stand by me, oh stand by me,
Oh please stand, stand by me, stand by me.
Oh darling, darling stand by me, oh stand by me,
Please stand, stand by me, stand by me.
Oh baby, baby
Oh darlin' darlin' stand la la nomie
Ooh stand la la nomie, O stand O stand stand
Stand by me c'mon stand by me, stand by me.
Stand la la nomie, oh won't you stand, la la nomie,
Oh stand la la nomie, stand by me, c'mon stand by me.
When the night has come, and the way is dark
And the moon, is the only light you see
I won't be afraid, lala nomie, I won't be afraid
Not as long, not as long as you stand by me.
