Jose Mourinho has ‘NO IDEA’ what to do - Paul Scholes lays into Man Utd manager
PAUL SCHOLES has launched a stinging attack on Jose Mourinho, claiming the Manchester United manager has “no idea” about his squad.
Manchester United are winless in four games and pressure is building on Mourinho.
The Red Devils boss is facing the sack if results do not drastically improve, with Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte both looking for work.
United play Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday in what is turning into a must-win game for Mourinho.
And United legend Scholes has hit out at the Portuguese boss, who has spent over £350m on new players since his arrival in the summer of 2016.
He has no idea what his best system is
"Unfortunately because the form’s not great, he’s chopping and changing, he has no idea what his best team is, he has no idea what his best system is, and this is after over two years,” Scholes said on BBC 5Live.
“I’m sick of him moaning about what he hasn’t got, when I think he really should be concentrating on what he has got.
"I think he’s got some real quality in the squad who are very low in confidence.”
Manchester United sit 10th in the Premier League table, nine points off leaders Manchester City and Liverpool.
They have also been dumped out of the EFL Cup and laboured to a 0-0 draw with Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Jose Mourinho arrived at United with the promise of rekindling the days experienced under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He has won the EFL Cup and Europa League since his arrival, and Scholes is backing the manager to keep his job.
But the former midfielder has set a challenge to the boss.
“Jose over the years has been a brilliant coach, his record suggests that, he’s been one of the very best,” Scholes added.
"I think now, I’d like to see him stay.
“Take this – which I think is probably the biggest challenge of his career – and show us what a good coach he is."
Scholes was also scathing about United’s set-up, which he believes has bred a lack of confidence in the squad.
“I’ve been there and it’s horrible. These players look like they’re really struggling for confidence,” he said.
“You can go five, six, seven months without scoring a goal like I did at times and it’s horrible.
“You just don’t know what you’re doing right, you don’t know what you’re doing wrong, but all of a sudden, before you know it, you’re back, you get a goal and you’re off and running again.
“I think every player has a spell when they’re low on confidence. I had a good run where I didn’t score.
“You’re driving home, you’re going to training you’re trying your best, you can’t wait to train, but you can’t do anything right.
“It’s difficult to explain. You start questioning ‘Am I fit enough?’ ‘Am I tired?’, ‘Am I doing too much?’
“You’re in that much of a mess but before you know it, you’ve scored a goal from two yards and you’re back and running again.”
