Man Utd news: What Marcus Rashford must say to Romelu Lukaku - Paul Scholes
MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford must tell Romelu Lukaku he is the man to take free kicks - not the Belgian.
That is according to former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes.
Scholes was speaking after United drew 0-0 with Valencia in the Champions League last night.
Marcus Rashford was praised by the BT Sport pundits for being the shining light in an otherwise drab game at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old went close to breaking the deadlock late on, striking the crossbar with a free kick from a tight angle.
He should be knocking Lukaku off of them shouldn’t he
Scholes' co-pundit Rio Ferdinand wants Rashford to take most set pieces when he is on the pitch, like he did when he first came into the side.
“When he came into the team that’s what he was like,” Ferdinand said.
“He was Roy of the Rovers, taking corners, taking free kicks, the lot.
“You just want to see him continue doing that.
“I know he works on it in training, he’s always on free kicks in training honing his craft.
“You’d like him to go in there and knock a few out the way and say ‘I don’t care about what price tag you’ve got, I’m the man on these free kicks’.
“But he’s a young lad so I’m sure that will come.”
Scholes agreed with Ferdinand and was particularly unimpressed with Lukaku’s set-pieces last night.
And he reckons Rashford should tell the Belgian he will take them from now on.
“He should be knocking Lukaku off of them shouldn’t he,” Scholes said of Rashford.
Manchester United are now winless in four games in all competitions.
They have also not won in their last four home matches.
Newcastle visit Old Trafford this Saturday looking for their first Premier League win of the season.
