Man Utd news: Rio Ferdinand mocks United against West Ham with Jorginho Chelsea comparison
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand mocked his former side after their 3-1 loss at West Ham today.
Rio Ferdinand slams Man United's showing against West Ham
Jose Mourinho’s side suffered their third Premier League defeat of the season at the London Stadium.
Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Manchester United after West Ham led 2-0 at half time, but Marko Arnautovic sealed the win for the hosts.
Ferdinand claimed United showed a lack of effort and allowed West Ham too much time on the ball.
The Hammers had 55 per cent off possession, far more than the 30 per cent they had in the 0-0 home draw to Chelsea last weekend.
One player got 180 passes - Man United may not have had 180 passes between all the players on the pitch today
On that occasion Chelsea midfielder Jorginho made 180 passes in the game - a Premier League record since records began.
And in Ferdinand’s criticism, he said he would not be surprised if United did not have 180 passes between them today.
“As a football player, part of your DNA without question is hard work, effort,” the pundit said on BT Sport.
“Today I just didn’t see that. I didn’t see people getting up against people, making it difficult for them.
“You come to a place like West Ham, you’ve got to put them under pressure. You don’t go there and let them have time on the ball.
“We said before, Chelsea came here last week and had 70 per cent possession.
“One player got 180 passes - Man United may not have had 180 passes between all the players on the pitch today, especially in the opponent’s half.
“I didn’t see them pass two or three passes in succession. That’s criminal almost.
“You’ve got to work hard, you’ve got that shirt on your back, you’ve got to keep it off of anyone else.
“I don’t see enough players working hard to say to the manager ‘this is my place in the team and I’m going to stay here’. That’s the problem.
“Before we talk about what happened in the week, before you talk about formations, you’ve got to grind, you’ve got to work hard.
“They didn’t and that’s the most disappointing thing but you have to say credit given to West Ham.”
