Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri backed to make January signing on one condition
CHELSEA boss Maurizio Sarri is likely to dip into the transfer market in January - if Gary Cahill leaves the club.
Chelsea's Gary Cahill in SKILLFUL shooting practice
That is the verdict of Southampton legend turned pundit Matt Le Tissier.
Cahill has admitted he will look to leave Chelsea in January if he does not get regular playing time at Stamford Bridge.
The centre-back is yet to make an appearance this season under new boss Sarri.
England international Cahill said: “For me to do this all season is going to be very difficult.
If he has to go out and do a little bit of business in January, then so be it. They’ve got the funds to do that
"I realise sometimes football doesn't wait for people.
“Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing.
"Obviously the most important thing is the club, but I have to look at my situation.
"And if I'm sat doing what I'm doing at this moment in time, I just hope that the club will respect that when it comes to the time."
Jose Mourinho: Maurizio Sarri has a fantastic team at Chelsea
Le Tissier does not think Cahill’s comments will be an issue for Sarri and reckons the Italian will understand how the 32-year-old feels.
And he can see Sarri looking for a replacement for Cahill if he does leave Chelsea.
“No, I don’t think it is an issue,” Le Tissier said.
“I think as long as the manager keeps him in the loop with everything.
“If he wants to go in January, I think he’s at an age now where the manager should just go ‘do you know what? I think you’re absolutely right’.
“They have to adapt with the players they’ve got there and if he has to go out and do a little bit of business in January, then so be it.
“They’ve got the funds to do that, so as long as he manages the situation finely then I don’t think it’s a problem in the dressing room.”
Chelsea will look to make it six Premier League wins from six on Sunday when they visit West Ham (1.30pm).
