Arsenal news: Unai Emery gives injury update on Lucas Torreira ahead of Everton clash
UNAI EMERY is hopeful Lucas Torreira will be fit for the visit of Everton on Sunday.
Lucas Torreira scores OUTRAGEOUS chip in Arsenal training
The Uruguay international made his full Arsenal debut last night in their 4-2 victory over FC Vorskla Poltava in their Europa League opener.
Torreira didn’t last the full 90 minutes though as he was forced off the pitch with a knee injury shortly after the start of the second half, being replaced by fellow summer arrival Matteo Guendouzi.
Emery has yet to find out the full extent of the midfielder’s setback but is hoping he’ll be able to recover for Sunday’s match.
“Each match we play, I am responsible for the group and for Torreira also,” the Spaniard said.
“I hope that (after) tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, he will be OK for Sunday.
“Lucas is playing with his progress on the team and on our ideas. Each minute he is playing, he is doing very well.”
Torreira, 22, joined Arsenal in July from Italian side Sampdoria for a fee of £26m.
The Uruguayan made his first league start of the season last Saturday in the north Londoners’ 2-1 victory over Newcastle and thoroughly impressed his new manager with his performance at St James’ Park.
“I want to give every player confidence,” he said. “I am very happy with Matteo and with Lucas.
“Maybe the second half we needed a bit more balance in the situation with our positioning on the pitch, Lucas gave us this balance.”
Arsenal go into Sunday’s game against Everton on the back of four consecutive victories, three of which have come in the league.
After facing Everton, the Gunners will welcome Brentford and Watford to the Emirates.
