Ronaldo has been sent-off for Juventus on his Champions League debut for the Serie A club tonight during their match against Valencia.
The 33-year-old received his marching orders following a clash with Jeison Murillo inside the area. Footage suggests it is unclear what he actually did wrong.
Cristiano Ronaldo was shocked by the decision and broke into tears before being ushered down the tunnel by his team-mates.
And Ferdinand, who played alongside the Portugal international for Manchester United, has urged him to appeal.
“Surely got to appeal this... @Cristiano??: he wrote.
United fans, though, can be forgiven for relishing in Ronaldo’s woes.
His dismissal tonight means he will miss Juventus’ Champions League showdown with Manchester United on October 23.
If he receives the maximum three-game ban then that will extend to the return match in Turin on November 7.

Ronaldo has now been sent off 11 times throughout his career.
However, he will have a chance to bounce back when Juventus face Frosinone on Sunday (7:30pm).
Meanwhile, Ferdinand has told BT Sport pundits he believes Ronaldo WILL be able to overturn the decision.
“It’s hard to see,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
