Liverpool news: Troy Deeney reveals what he loves about Jurgen Klopp’s side
LIVERPOOL’s squad depth is the most impressive thing about Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
That is the opinion of Watford striker Troy Deeney, who was working as a pundit for Sky Sports tonight.
Liverpool have won their first five games of the Premier League campaign and sit second in the table.
Only Chelsea sit above them, with Maurizio Sarri winning his first five league games in English football.
Deeney was working alongside Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher ahead of Brighton’s trip to Southampton.
I just love what Liverpool are doing
The Watford man has praised Liverpool’s recent defensive recruits of goalkeeper Alisson and centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
But he says it is telling how well fringe players Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri have played when given the opportunity.
“He’s (Carragher) going to love it but I just love what Liverpool are doing,” Deeney said.
“I think the biggest thing for me is when you’ve seen Sturridge come back, he’s desperate to be involved.
“Shaqiri coming in, I just think they’ve got a real good balance to their squad now.
“Obviously the keeper made one mistake but he looks like a really good acquisition.
“They’ve got the best defender in the league in my opinion in Van Dijk.”
Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday as they get their Champions League campaign underway.
Jurgen Klopp's side reached the final last season before losing to Real Madrid.
Liverpool will look to make it six from six in the Premier League on Saturday.
Southampton will make the trip up to Merseyside, looking to become the first team to take points off the Reds this season.
Saints are in action tonight as they host Brighton at St Mary's.
