Chelsea news: Asmir Begovic makes big Man City claim about Maurizio Sarri's side
CHELSEA are as good in possession as reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
That is according to Bournemouth goalkeeper and former Chelsea stopper Asmir Begovic.
Chelsea sit top of the Premier League table after winning their first five games under Maurizio Sarri.
The start to the season is in stark contrast to last term under Antonio Conte, where the Blues ended up finishing the campaign in fifth.
Begovic played against Chelsea earlier this month at Stamford Bridge and his Bournemouth side were on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat.
I don’t see why they can’t be right at the top
And the Bosnian admits he has been impressed with his former side.
“Very impressive,” he said on Goals on Sunday.
“We went to the Bridge and obviously had a real tough game. I think we gave it a good go but ultimately it wasn’t meant to be.
“I think they’re a top side, top players, great depth in the squad now.
“Their possession style now is impressive, they just keep the ball and are very, very patient.
“It was very difficult for us but I think they will be right up there.”
Goals on Sunday presenter Chris Kamara asked Begovic if Chelsea were as good as Manchester City in possession.
The goalkeeper responded: “Yeah, right up there.
“I think obviously what Sarri did at Napoli before, I watched them a lot over the years, they have been a very impressive side.
“Now he’s got absolute world class players everywhere and I don’t see why they can’t be right at the top.”
Chelsea sit above Liverpool on goal difference at the top of the Premier League table.
They beat Cardiff 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Eden Hazard starring with a hat-trick.
