Liverpool news: Roberto Firmino eye injury makes ace a doubt for PSG – Graphic pics
ROBERTO FIRMINO suffered a horrendous eye injury during Liverpool's win over Tottenham, making the striker a doubt for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
Roberto Firmino suffered a graphic eye injury during Liverpool’s latest Premier League win over Tottenham at Wembley.
The Brazilian forward was involved in a gruesome incident with Jan Vertonghen where the Spurs defender’s finger went straight into Firmino’s eye socket.
The clash appeared to be accidental, although Firmino required extensive treatment on the pitch before being substituted.
The 26-year-old was helped down the tunnel and is now a doubt for Liverpool’s opening Champions League group stage match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Liverpool continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Spurs as Jurgen Klopp’s side made it five wins from five matches.
Georginio Wijnaldum opened the scoring with a looping header before Firmino doubled the lead, tapping home from close range after good work from Sadio Mane.
However, the Brazil international was forced off the field after a clash with Vertonghen which saw the Belgian defender’s finger disappear right into Firmino’s eye.
The frontman was seen holding a blood-covered bandage to his eye as he was helped away, and the extent of the damage is not yet known.
Speaking after the match, Klopp said: “I’m not sure, but there may be an injury with Roberto, we don’t know exactly in the moment.
“It’s something with his eye, we will see.
“I didn’t see it back. I only saw the situation from around 60 yards. I have no clue what exactly happened.
“But it’s something with the eye and for sure in the moment it’s not comfortable for him. We will see.”
