Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus fans assured as striker faces FOURTH game without goal
CRISTIANO RONALDO is not at crisis point just yet after his goal drought at Juventus, claims Luca Toni.
Ronaldo has failed to score a competitive goal for Juventus after signing from Real Madrid in the summer.
The Portugal international cost the Old Lady a staggering £105m that shattered the Italian transfer record.
Ronaldo is being paid £106m over four years in Turin but is yet to repay his new employers with a goal.
The same worry can be had over at AC Milan, where their new striker Gonzalo Higuain is yet to score.
He just needs a bit of luck
And Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi has also drawn a blank this season.
But former Italy striker Toni says Ronaldo fans shouldn’t worry about the 33-year-old’s drought in front of goal.
“I wouldn’t worry after three matches,” Toni told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Ronaldo, Higuain and Icardi will be feeling the weight of this difficult moment, because they’re strikers who are used to scoring a lot. But it’ll pass soon.
“Can Ronaldo get 40 goals? I think here in Italy 40 goals is a difficult target, but he’ll score a lot.
“He just needs a bit of luck, and for some tactical systems to be defined.”
Juventus already top Serie A after maximum points from their opening three games.
The play Sassuolo on Sunday and Toni reckons Ronaldo will soon start scoring for fun.
“Juve are winning all the same though,” he added. “When he starts scoring it’ll be very difficult for the others, because he can score with both feet, his head, and from inside or outside the penalty box. He has a huge repertoire.”
Ronaldo will also make his Champions League debut for Juventus next week when they travel to Valencia on Wednesday.
The Portugal international was signed by Juve specifically to deliver European honours, having won the Champions League in each of the past three seasons with Real Madrid.
His arrival at Juve forced Higuain out of the club, with the Argentine moving to Milan.
As for Icardi, he is supposedly on Real’s radar - although the Bernabeu club seem more keen on Ronaldo’s team-mate Paulo Dybala.
