Arsenal news: Unai Emery will DROP one star soon - Paul Robinson
ARSENAL boss Unai Emery will soon drop goalkeeper Petr Cech if he persists with his style of play.
Unai Emery will soon drop Petr Cech says Paul Robinson
That is according to former England, Leeds and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Cech has started every game for Arsenal so far this season under new head coach Emery.
That is despite German international Bernd Leno joining for around £20million in the summer transfer window.
Emery has made it apparent he wants Cech and his defenders to play out from the back.
Petr Cech’s not comfortable and I can’t see him playing much longer if that’s the way he wants to play
However, the former Chelsea man has looked unconvincing at times and almost gifted Cardiff a goal on Sunday in the Gunners’ 3-2 win.
And Robinson cannot understand why Cech has not gone against his manager’s wishes at times and punted it up the pitch.
“As a goalkeeper I don’t understand,” Robinson said on beIN SPORTS.
“He’s under pressure to play from his manager, I’ve been in that situation before.
“But there are certain situations in a game where you just have to put your foot through a ball.
“There’s certain times where you cannot play, you’re putting yourself and your team under more pressure by trying to play.
“Petr Cech is not one of the most comfortable goalkeepers with the ball at his feet anyway and I think he’s been asked to do something he’s not comfortable with.
“I don’t know why he just doesn’t put his foot through the ball.”
Robinson continued by saying it will not be long before Cech is replaced in the team by Leno.
“Petr Cech’s not comfortable and I can’t see him playing much longer if that’s the way he wants to play,” he added.
“He’s not overly comfortable with the ball at his feet, as we’ve seen twice today in the early stages.”
Arsenal face a trip to Newcastle next up in the Premier League on September 15, looking to make it three wins in a row.
They currently sit ninth in the table after four games.
