Arsenal news: Andy Gray reveals difficulty in Gunners dressing room
ARSENAL boss Unai Emery will be finding it difficult to get his point across in the heat of the battle on a match day, claims former Scotland striker Andy Gray.
Emery has been learning English ever since being appointed Arsenal head coach in May.
The Spaniard has chosen not to use a translator as some managers have in the past in the Premier League.
Gray reckons Emery will not have a problem during training sessions between games.
However, he says at half time it will be difficult to talk to his players in a limited time.
If he needs something to happen in the dressing room, he’s got 10 minutes, 15 minutes max to get his point across. It might be more difficult
“I think Monday-Friday is not a problem for Unai Emery,” Gray said on beIN SPORTS.
“He’ll get his point across, a training session is totally different.
“I do get your point that, like today, if he needs something to happen in the dressing room, he’s got 10 minutes, 15 minutes max to get his point across.
“It might be more difficult.”
Former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson admits it was difficult working under a manager whose English was not up to scratch.
“It’s difficult when you’ve got foreign managers,” Robinson said.
“The quicker they learn the language, obviously it’s easier.
“We had Jacques Santini at Spurs when I first signed there and he spoke through a translator.
“It’s so uninspiring to be in a dressing room and your manager gives you a team talk and it comes via a translator.
“It was difficult at times (with Fabio Capello, ex-England manager) and it’s to just him, it’s any foreign coach that comes in.
“We’re lazy as English people, we expect people to speak English rather than us speak their language.”
Arsenal have won two and lost two of their first four competitive games under Emery and sit ninth in the table.
