Rangers transfer news: Fresh details emerge as West Brom bid for Tavernier REJECTED AGAIN
RANGERS have rejected a second bid from West Brom for their captain James Tavernier.
Rangers are desperate to keep the defender this summer but are facing a battle to fend off the Baggies.
Rangers are preparing for the Old Firm this weekend and the last thing manager Steven Gerrard wants is to lose his captain.
And Sky Sports say an offer by West Brom to sign Tavernier has been rejected.
This is the Baggies’ second bid for Tavernier this summer, with the first - offered on August 9 - set at just £3m.
Tavernier, 26, joined Rangers in 2015 from Wigan and has become a mainstay in the Gers side.
He started his career at Newcastle, having also played at Leeds in his youth, and made his debut in 2009.
Rangers are themselves seeing to do deals on deadline day.
A move for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke is being backed by the bookies.
Asked about the player earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp said: “I have nothing to say. I don’t want to discuss things like this in a press conference," he responded.
"I hear this for the first time now, so it doesn’t look like it’s close to happening! Nothing to say.
“We have the 31st August, Italy closes today, and the rest have two weeks.
"That’s how it is. Nothing to say.”
