THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE draw will take place tomorrow, so who are the leading candidates to lift the famous trophy ahead of the group stage?
Champions League will be open this season says pundit
The Champions League group stage draw is set to take place in Monaco tomorrow evening, with 32 teams all going into the hat ahead of Europe’s greatest club competition.
Real Madrid are the defending champions after a night of heartbreak for Liverpool in Kiev last season.
Mohamed Salah suffered a nightmare injury before two howlers from Loris Karius ensured the Reds would go home empty-handed.
Gareth Bale was the star of the show for the Spanish giants, scoring twice in the 3-1 victory as Zinedine Zidane signed off as Los Blancos manager in style.
Liverpool are back for another crack at the tournament this year, with Jurgen Klopp’s men joined by Premier League rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham.
All four English clubs are among the top 10 teams most likely to win the competition, according to bookmakers Betfair.
The quartet are joined by Juventus, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain among the frontrunners ahead of the group stage draw.
There are still three places left to be decided from the play-off rounds before the eight groups are selected, meaning Liverpool, Valencia, and Viktoria Plzen are yet to be allocated a pot.
The Reds’ seeding is dependant on whether Benfica make it past PAOK Salonika, with a win for the Portuguese side putting Liverpool into Pot 3.
However, a Greek victory sends Klopp’s men into Pot 2 due to each club’s respective UEFA coefficients.
Valencia and Viktoria Plzen will be placed in either Pot 3 or 4 depending on tonight’s games with PSV Eindhoven determining their fate due to the Dutch side holding a higher coefficient.
Regardless of these permutations, there is already an outstanding favourite to lift the Champions League trophy in May – but who will you back?
