Man Utd news: Sky Sports pundit slams ‘stupid’ Jose Mourinho criticism - it is ridiculous
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has received plenty of unfair criticism of late, claims Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness.
Mourinho’s future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks.
The Portuguese was not happy with the club’s transfer business in the summer and watched his team suffer a shock 3-2 loss to Brighton eight days ago.
Mourinho is the favourite to lose his job next in the Premier League, but Souness has labelled rumours about his future as “stupid”.
“They’re under pressure,” Souness said of United.
People are now looking at him and people are talking about how much longer he has got at United, which personally I think is stupid
“All of a sudden the manager is being questioned. He’s a serious manager, serial winner.
“It’s ridiculous that they are questioning him, but that is the price on the ticket when you’re at a big football club.
“The problem for him is the genie is now out of the bottle.
“People are now looking at him and people are talking about how much longer he has got at United, which personally I think is stupid.
“But that is the price on the ticket if you’re the manager of Manchester United and it’s not going well.”
Souness says Jose Mourinho’s task has been made harder by the progression of bitter rivals Liverpool and last season’s champions Manchester City.
“His problems are compounded because of what’s happening along the East Lancs Road at Liverpool,” the Liverpool legend added.
“They are an emerging team, a team that isn’t going to go away for a long time, if you look at the age and the quality they’ve got in their squad.
“And I think what’s happening nearer home, Man City. The champions, the brand of football they’re playing and that will hurt Man United supporters.
“The football they’re playing isn’t Man United.
"If you’re playing the way Man United are playing, you have to be winning things.
“You have to be winning matches and taking the spotlight off your performances.”
Mourinho made six changes for the visit of Tottenham tonight.
