Man Utd news: Fans are not impressed with Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford – This is why
MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a shock defeat to Brighton on Sunday and not all Red Devils supporters were impressed with what Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford did after the final whistle.
Lingard and Rashford give away shirts after Brighton game
Three first-half goals from Glen Murray, Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross stunned Jose Mourinho’s side to a 3-2 defeat at the Amex on Sunday.
Defensive errors littered United’s performance and Mourinho’s long-term future at the club remains in doubt.
Fans were furious with the result with many supporters making their frustrations heard at full-time.
Just four players were seen apologising to fans after the game – Rashford, Lingard, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw.
Rashford and Lingard were seen throwing their shirts into the crowd to the delight of some fans.
And while some supporters believe Rashford and Lingard’s gesture was a “class act”, others were not so impressed.
“They might know what it means to represent United but they’re certainly not good enough to represent United,” one fan commented.
Another fan wrote: “We want points not shirts please.”
“Fans don't want shirts, we want trophies,” a third supporter said.
A fourth fan fumed: “Don't want a shirt, I want 3 points.”
Meanwhile another angry supporter wrote: “Why don't they show their class on the field of play.”
Despite the shock defeat, Mourinho is understood to retain the full backing of the United board amid suggestions former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is being considered as a replacement.
A United source told the BBC: “Why would we discuss Zidane when there is no job?”
But it’s also alleged Mourinho and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are "not on speaking terms" following the shambolic summer transfer window during which United made just three new signings.
TV pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft tweeted: “Sad to see the state of Man UTD this summer and the last couple of weeks. It’s not a global club worthy.
“A CEO and a manager not on speaking terms (so it seems for all of us). Time for the board to sort this out. One must go. Or maybe both. This is embarrassing.”
