Newcastle transfer news: Update issued on pursuit for Arsenal star Danny Welbeck
NEWCASTLE have no interest in signing Arsenal outcast Danny Welbeck, it has been claimed.
Transfer news: Will Emery keep Welbeck at Arsenal?
Welbeck’s future at the Emirates has been bleak ever since the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is reportedly keen to bolster his strike-force before the transfer window closes at 5:00pm.
According to the Telegraph, Welbeck’s name is on the Spaniard’s list of potential last-minute signings.
However, the BBC claim the Magpies aren’t keen on landing the England international.
At this moment in time, it would appear that Welbeck’s future lies away from Arsenal, who he joined in the summer of 2014.
It’s understood that new Gunners boss Unai Emery doesn’t see the 27-year-old fitting into his plans and is willing to listen to offers for him.
Newcastle have had a very productive transfer window this summer, bringing in six players for the coming campaign.
Arsenal train ahead of Manchester City clash
Benitez has splashed out £25m acquiring the services of Yoshinori Muto, Mikel Merino, Fabian Schar, Martin Dubravka, Solomon Rondon and Ki Sung-yeung.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss only has 12 months left on his current contract with the northeast side and Toon skipper Jamal Lascelles has claimed it’s imperative the club keep the 58-year-old on Tyneside.
“I can't reiterate enough how important he is," Lascelles said. "Since he's been here, promotion, finishing 10th, everybody loves him, the players love him.
“We've all got that same ambition and the same drive.
"I don't know what is holding the club back, but we all know what we want as players and as staff, and, for me, I'd make him the happiest man here if possible."
Newcastle kick off the Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Tottenham to St James’ Park.
