Leeds transfer news: Marcelo Bielsa ‘will sign’ defender TODAY - report
LEEDS are set to sign Everton defender Matthew Pennington today, it's claimed.
The centre-half, who can also play at right-back, made 24 appearances during his loan spell at Elland Road last season.
And according to Football Insider, Pennington has snubbed interest from other clubs to force through a return to Leeds.
They reckon Leeds are hoping to sign the defender on loan today.
Pennington favours a move back to Leeds over Blackburn and Wigan, who are also in for the 23-year-old.
Leeds transfer news: Marcelo Bielsa is set to sign Everton defender Matthew Pennington today
New Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa opened up on his transfer plans today, revealing he wants a deep squad.
When asked where he wants to strengthen, he said: “Usually I like to have two players for every position.
“Of a group of 22 players, 18 have the same level.
“And I like to have four youngsters that can improve their level to become first-team players.
“I can’t give you a definite answer. If I had something concrete I would let you know.”
When asked about whether he’s a fan of the transfer window, Bielsa said: “No.
“I like it when things are clear. I don’t like periods when we have insurgency.”
Leeds beat Stoke 3-1 last weekend to kick off their Championship season.
And Bielsa has hailed his players for their dominating performance.
“The game was a stable game,” he said.
“The game didn’t have many ups and downs, we dominated for the most part.
“And we respected our philosophy of play during the most part of the game.
“The two aspects that characterised us more are we get the ball back very fast and we make many passes building from the back before finishing the action.
“So I look at these two aspects and if we respect these two aspects I can get an idea of the level of the team.”
Leeds are back in action on Saturday evening when the Whites face Derby (5:30pm kick-off).
Bielsa’s men then face Bolton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
