Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho in the clear to sign Rebic as Bayern rule out move
MANCHESTER UNITED are seemingly in the clear to sign Ante Rebic after Bayern Munich officially ruled out a move for the Eintracht Frankfurt winger.
Rebic was one of Croatia’s star performers at this summer’s World Cup, featuring in all but one of his side’s games in the tournament.
His impressive form in Russia is understood to have caught the eye of several of Europe’s elite clubs, including United.
Bundesliga giants Bayern were also rumoured to hold an interest in signing the 24-year-old, who helped guide his country to their first World Cup final.
Bayern chief Niko Kovac is an admirer of his fellow countryman but is adamant he’s not on his radar.
“There is nothing between FC Bayern and Ante Rebic,” Kovac told Sport Bild.
“He is a strong personality and a great player but [a transfer] makes no sense.
“It doesn't make sense today, and it won't tomorrow.”
Rebic has been flattered by the interest shown in him, recently telling Goal: “I am obviously glad to hear and read about how many big coaches and clubs are asking about me. Honestly, I think I deserved it.

"I had a great World Cup and an even better club season with Eintracht.
“Yes, I know there are concrete offers, I keep in regular contact with my agent.
"I'm glad I proved that everyone can count on me, but as I said there is enough time left until the transfer window closes."
Kovac’s declaration could pave the way for Mourinho to make a last-ditch move for Rebic, should he be keen on adding some more firepower to his squad before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
United have only made three additions to their squad this summer, bringing in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant from Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto and Stoke City respectively.
Mourinho has been frustrated with the club’s lack of reinforcements and recently warned his bosses that they risk falling behind their rivals if they don’t adequately strengthen the team.
"The other clubs who compete with us are really strong and already have fantastic teams,” the Portuguese told MUTV.
“Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody.
"If we don't make our team better it will be a difficult season for us."
