British Grand Prix qualifying results: Hamilton steals pole away from Vettel at Silverston
BRITISH GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING - Full standings as Lewis Hamilton beats Sebastian Vettel to pole.
Lewis Hamilton put in a new track record time of 1:25:892 in the dying seconds of qualifying to put his car on pole at the British Grand Prix for a fourth consecutive year.
Sebastian Vettel looked on course for pole after setting a scintillating time.
But the Mercedes driver managed to match his championship rival to give himself a chance of returning to the top of the driver’s standings.
Kimi Raikkonen also managed to move up in the final run, stealing third away from Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton was visibly emotional when he got of his car with the Silverstone grandstand shouting his name.
"I gave it everything he could," he says. "It was so close between these Ferraris, the Ferraris just pulled something out when it got to Q3 and I was just praying I could do it for you guys [the fans].
"I'm so grateful for the support because without you guys I wouldn't have been able to do it."
