The Red Bull driver will take to the track this weekend hoping to kick off his 2018 campaign with a podium finish in Melbourne.
The 20-year-old endured an outstanding latter part of last season, securing two wins and a second place finish in the last six races.
Verstappen has only ever secured three wins during his short F1 career but things were very different as he rose through the ranks as a youngster.
During his go-karting career he won 68 out of his first 70 races in Holland and Belgium and Verstappen admits he did not take defeat lightly.

I was crying because I was only used to winning.
“I had a mechanical problem in one race,” he said in an interview with the Guardian.
“In the other I was in the lead but somebody left some water on the track and I spun off.
“I was crying because I was only used to winning.
“I was really angry. But then I felt very determined to win the next race, which I did.”
Verstappen will hope to get back to winning ways this year as he looks to build on his successful campaign last season, despite his car struggles.

Despite being forced to retire in seven of his races he admits staying positive is the best way to bounce back.
“You always have to believe in yourself and I had that from karting,” he added.
“Of course, for me, maybe it was a bit easier because I was winning lots of races and I never had to doubt myself.
“I was never one of those kids saying: ‘Is it all going to be all right?’
“If you start doubting yourself like that, thinking: ‘Am I good enough?’ – maybe there is a reason you’re thinking that.”
