Toto Wolff gives Mercedes update Max Verstappen will hate as Hamilton could win again
Lewis Hamilton claimed his first F1 win in over two-and-a-half years at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Toto Wolff has revealed that Mercedes are bringing more upgrades to the races in Hungary and Belgium before the summer break as his team looks to keep their winning streak alive. George Russell claimed a fortuitous win in Austria before Lewis Hamilton secured an even more encouraging victory at Silverstone.
Mercedes have recently enjoyed a sharp upward trajectory, arriving on the scene at the front of the field and joining what previously looked like a two-way fight between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
Now, after Hamilton won on pure pace at Silverstone, Mercedes could be a genuine threat to Verstappen and Norris on a weekly basis. This will be unwelcome news for both the Dutchman and Red Bull, who are fighting with one hand tied behind their backs due to Sergio Perez’s struggles.

According to Wolff’s recent comments, Mercedes don’t plan on letting up either. “It clicked,” he explained.
“Suddenly everything that didn’t make sense, made sense. The development direction, or the results of the development direction, are like back in the old days, we are finding performance, we are putting it on the car, and it translates into lap time.
“That wasn’t the case for the last two years. There’s more to come in terms of performance we’re bringing, we’re bringing bits to Budapest and Spa. But on the other side, we mustn’t get carried away. We had a win last week benefiting from the entangling but, today, we have an honest win. We had the real pace.”

These comments were echoed by Hamilton, who proclaimed his record-breaking ninth British GP success to have marked the true start of Mercedes’ return to race-winning contention.
"I think George's win last week was amazing, but it wasn't on pure pace," Hamilton noted. "I think this weekend was the first time we did it on pure pace without qualifying on the front row.

“After that even pulling in that first stint, both of us pulled away from everybody else. Then ultimately, I think with the conditions today, the driver is able to make a bit of a difference."
Hamilton will now be rubbing his hands at the prospect of returning to the Hungaroring in two weeks. The seven-time world champion is a master of the circuit and even claimed pole position there in 2023 in the much-inferior W14. With those facts in mind, Mercedes will be targeting a third successive victory in Budapest next time out.
