Valtteri Bottas burned through a whopping 4,600 calories in under six hours during his weekend break from Formula One.

The Stake driver took part in the gruelling Unbound 100 Gravel bike race in the United States - a 100-mile course traversing around the Kansas countryside.

Posting to his Strava account, Bottas proudly showed off his weekend workout, which took him five hours and 26 minutes to complete.

Burning through the equivalent of 17 McDonald’s BigMacs during the race, the Finnish driver also revealed he finished second in his age category.

A mammoth achievement, fans took to social media to congratulate the 34-year-old racing machine.

Posting on Reddit, a user called P4TY said: “Has anyone told Valtteri he’s allowed to relax on his days off?”

Dragonpuncha replied by saying: “This is him relaxing.”

While Tigrisnakkanaa commented: “Second place in his age group is nothing to scoff at, damn!”

Bottas is a known cycling lover, with the ex-Mercedes driver having spent the full weekend in Kansas preparing for the Unbound 100 race.

And speaking about his love of racing on two wheels, Bottas recently told the Bobby and Jens podcast he’s set his sights on qualifying for a World Championship event this year.

He said: “Obviously, Formula One is the priority for me, but a close second is cycling.

“Whenever I get the chance, I try to fit in some good [cycling] training blocks and I plan on racing some more gravel events this year - this time of year is for the bicycle.

“I take bike racing seriously. If I enter a race, it is automatic that something happens in my brain - I will always be out there to challenge myself. I don’t mind hurting myself [in a race].

“I will try to qualify for Gravel Worlds [in 2024]...that’s my goal.”

Luckily for Bottas, the Gravel World Championships falls between Formula One races, meaning he’ll be able to compete, should he qualify for the October event.

Away from competing in races himself, Bottas has set up a competition of his own.

In 2022 Bottas, along with partner Tiffany Cromwell, announced the creation of FNLD GRVL - a gravel bike race hosted annually in his native Finland.

Hosting its inaugural outing in 2023, the race starts and ends close to Bottas’ hometown in southern Finland.
