could be in line for a return to Formula One, with the son of seven-time world champion reportedly an option for the under-pressure Alpine.

The French constructor made headlines during the Monaco Grand Prix when team mates and collided on the first lap.

Ocon’s attempts to squeeze through a gap that didn’t exist on the narrow streets of Monaco caused the Frenchman’s car to go flying in the air, with Gasley and team principal Bruno Famin left furious.

The Formula One guru promised ‘consequences’ as a result of Ocon’s recklessness during an interview with French outlet Canal +.

He said: "Esteban's attack was completely out of line. It's exactly what we didn't want to see, and there will be consequences.”

In the short-term, that could mean ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, but in the long-term, it may mean a departure from Alpine altogether.

Swiss outlet Blick has previously claimed Ocon - along with team mate Gasly - are on the shortlist of options for the new Audi F1 team, who are set to take to the grid for the 2026 season.

As a result, a window of opportunity could present itself for Schumacher, even though he’s not raced in Formula One since 2022.

The German driver - who is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes, as well as a driver for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship - told Sky Germany he’s targeting a Formula One comeback: “My goal and my dream is to drive in Formula One. That has always been the case and always will be.

“That’s why we have to make sure that the dominoes now fall in my favour and that I hopefully end up with a seat.

“What I can do for that is simply give my best performance in the WEC and also in Formula One and continue to perform well for the team as reserve driver and continue to hold talks.”

What’s more, unlike the incumbent drivers, Schumacher appears to have earned the respect of his team principal, with Famin admitting he is on the shortlist of Alpine options for 2025.

The 62-year-old added: “I’m very happy with Mick… I’m very impressed with him because he has adapted his attitude to endurance racing from day one. He gets on very well with his team-mates.

“Everything is open for 2025, everyone is talking to everyone. It would be a mistake not to have Mick on the list.”

Following back-to-back race weekends, Formula One is set to take a week’s break, before returning in the first week of June for the Canadian Grand Prix.
