F1 Monaco Grand Prix qualifying: Lewis Hamilton beats Valtteri Bottas to pole position
LEWIS HAMILTON beat Valtteri Bottas by the finest of margins to secure a crucial pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix.
With limited overtaking opportunities in Monaco, Hamilton knows pole position is pivotal to winning the race.
And the Brit was able to beat Bottas by 0.09s to ensure Mercedes got a front-row lockout.
Ferrari had a nightmare weekend as Charles Leclerc crashed out of Q1 after poor judgement from their mechanics.
Sebastian Vettel also clipped a barrier during his out lap and must start from fourth.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed the top three and he thinks that might be the best he can hopeful in the race.
“Yeah they were a bit quick,” he said of the Mercedes pair.
“It was a reasonable lap, in these straights it is difficult to push it.
“I haven’t done many qualifying here so of course I am very happy to be third.”
