Heavy rain claims second NatWest Series ODI between Australia and England
ENGLAND and Australia were left frustrated by rain as the weather claimed the second ODI in the NatWest Series at Edgbaston last night.
Eoin Morgan’s side, who went 1-0 down at Old Trafford, lost the toss and were in trouble at 59-3 after Michael Carberry, Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root fell cheaply.
With 15.1 overs on the board, play was interrupted by heavy rain and proceedings were eventually called off at 7.05pm. And with just two matches now left in the series Morgan said: “We need to up our game if we’re to win this series. That’s the aim.”
Matthew Hoggard announced his retirement yesterday, after an 18-year career.
The 36-year-old played with distinction for Yorkshire and latterly Leicestershire, but will be best remembered as one quarter of the seam attack which won the Ashes in 2005.
Hoggard took 248 wickets in 67 Tests for England.
