Ravi Ashwin BLASTED on social media over ‘disgraceful’ Jos Buttler mankad at IPL
RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN has suffered heavy criticism after his mankad of Jos Buttler in the Indian Premier League on Monday.
Ashwin ran Buttler out in hugely controversial style in the match between the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab.
The Indian off-spinner aborted his run up on the fifth ball of the 13th over of Rajasthan’s innings, as they attempted to chase down Kings XI’s 184-4.
Buttler was out of his crease when Ashwin removed the bails and the dismissal was given after referral to the third umpire.
But the incident did not go down well on social media.
So disappointed in Ravi Ashwin as a Captain & as a person
Legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne was furious with Ashwin for what he did.
Warne wrote on Twitter: “So disappointed in @ashwinravi99 as a Captain & as a person.
“All captains sign the #IPL wall & agree to play in the spirit of the game.
“RA had no intention of delivering the ball - so it should have been called a dead ball.
“Over to u BCCI - this a not a good look for the #IPL.”
Former England Ashes hero Chris Tremlett was more succinct with his views, tweeting: “ASHWIN you absolute PLONKER !!”
England opening batsman and former IPL star Jason Roy also could not believe what he saw from Ashwin.
“Ashwin, that’s shocking behaviour! Very disappointed to see that,” Roy posted.
The always outspoken Piers Morgan also tweeted his views of the incident.
“Disgraceful behaviour by @ashwinravi99 - Buttler was still in the crease as he began to deliver the ball,” Morgan put.
“Hate seeing this, what a terrible example to kids. #IPL #Ashwin.”
IPL: Rajasthan Royals fans sing chant for Jos Buttler
Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris instead laid blame at the umpires’ door.
“My opinion on the Buttler/Ashwin controversy is that its NOT Buttlers fault and its NOT Ashwins fault either,” Styris wrote.
“Ashwin is entitled to appeal.
“I thought the TV umpire made the incorrect decision.
“Should’ve been dead ball… play on.”
Ashwin's Kings XI side went on to win the match by 14 runs after a stunning collapse from Rajasthan.
They lost six wickets for 16 runs, with England's Sam Curran taking two wickets including that of former Australia skipper Steve Smith.
